In honor of the northeast getting even more snow and the Eagles winning the Super Bowl this past Sunday, here are some pictures from my Philly trip!

I stayed outside in Philly as much as possible to enjoy the snow since Texas doesn’t get it too often, and I ended up landing in Texas to snow 😅 There’s nothing like being in a different city when it becomes a winter wonderland, though!!

I spent the last few days in Philadelphia, which turned out to be a great weekend getaway! This Texas girl even saw snow!

Planning a trip to a city in the northeast in January, I knew there was a chance that I’d get to see snow. I don’t get to see it too often, so I am always so happy when I get the chance. Walking around the city and taking it all in around Rittenhouse was so magical!

The moment I step foot on the beach, my mind is free 🌊

I was honestly super impressed with @goldengatenps !
It has 82,000 acres with 19 different ecosystems!! It consists of Muir Woods, Alcatraz Island, beaches, lighthouses, trails, campgrounds, overlooks, picnic areas, park areas, and even part of a fort.

Now that we’re 7 days into 2025, my New Year’s resolutions:

1. Do one day of exploring each month, whether that’s a museum, a day trip, a hike, etc. I love trying new things and discovering new places, so my goal is to spend at least one day each month doing exactly that.
2. Try a new cuisine each month. Send all cuisine/restaurant recs for Austin, Houston, or San Antonio! I’ve tried a bunch of different cuisines but love to branch out and try others
3. Go on two weekend trips out of state this year! One has already been planned and is coming up really soon 👀
4. Do at least one blog post each month! I have so many drafts, I just need to finish them and post them!
5. Work out at least 4x a week. I will have to switch up my workouts to stay on top of this for sure!
6. Take my dog on one long walk each week!

There were definitely others that I told myself I would do and of course I can’t remember now, so I’m writing these here so I can be held accountable!

I know I said I was reaching the end of my SF content but just kidding!! It looks like I have a few more videos 😅

We took the ferry (what you see in the video) and toured Alcatraz while we were in San Fran, it was so cool!! Did you know that it’s unknown if anyone successfully escaped from Alcatraz?? There were several escapes attempted and then there were a couple that escaped and were basically classified as unknown or potentially drowned. They were never caught or seen anywhere so who knows if they actually successfully escaped!

Let me just say, I looooved taking the ferry but I would not attempt to swim from Alcatraz Island to the mainland. I’ll stay on the boat, thanks 😁

Don’t wake me up I’m dreaming ✨

A little bit of NYC content for you! Here’s a little glimpse into my stay at @theplazahotel ! Staying here was literally a dream come true!! I had the opportunity to live like Eloise for one night in my terrace room with my king bed 😍 from soaking in the clawfoot tub after ordering up dinner to enjoying hot tea and croissants on my private terrace while the sun rose over the city… the stay was nothing short of spectacular !!

Yesterday, as I wore a Mike Wazowski scrunchie in my hair and had a pediatric patient follow me around work for 15 minutes and make their stuffed animal attack me with kisses, my supervisor told me I can give golden retriever energy…

A delayed part 2, but part 2 none the less! And there are so many more adventures and amazing experiences I could add to this. Pictures can tell a thousand words! They hold memories, stories, and beauty that we are able to share others

Part 1: Why do you take so many photos? So that one day I can show my kids.

Growing up, I always loooooved looking at old photos that my parents kept. Whether it was photos of me as a baby or photos from when my parents were kids, I would spend hours looking through all of them. We have boxes on boxes of photos, probably thousands of them that we’ve collected. Part of me loves that we have our phones ready to take photos whenever we want and look back at the memories, but the other part is sad that physical photos are slowly fading. My goal is to print all the important photos from my phone so my kids can look through physical photos like I did when I was younger.

Grad school has not been easy and a lot has happened in the past 3.5ish years (including exploring 9 states and 5 countries!). Here’s to being about 90% done with my degree and the incredible opportunities I’ve had along the way! Dr. Lauren loading…

What are yours?

One of my absolute favorite parts of San Francisco was Chinatown! Did you know San Francisco is home to the oldest Chinatown in North America?? It’s also the largest Chinatown outside of Asia! It was originally founded in 1849, but the neighborhood had to be rebuilt after the devastating 1906 earthquake. We explored blocks and blocks of different restaurants and shops in this vibrant neighborhood and could not get enough of it! We even stopped by @goldengatefortunecookies to try different flavors of fortune cookies!

You know… I’m honestly surprised I didn’t make it to San Fran sooner considering some of my all-time favorite shows and movies are set in The Golden City.

We all know Full House was set in SF and that is just one of my comfort shows. If I had trouble falling asleep at night, I’d flip on the telly and Full House would be on. There was just something about the show that put my mind at ease enough to help me fall asleep.

Another one of my comfort shows is Monk. I wish I was able to pick up on as many details as Mr. Monk does. One thing my Dad said that we had to do while visiting SF was to touch all the posts that we see along sidewalks just like Monk does. Unfortunately (or fortunately I guess), we were so caught up with the wonders of the city that we didn’t cross that off our list. Next time!!

Last but not least, Princess Diaries!! Okay yeah, a large portion of the movie is set in Genovia but her normal life was in SF

This weekend I went to @otakufoodfestival with my family and we tried sooo many different foods!

We had Japanese soufflé pancakes with strawberry cream, Longan juice, fried octopus on a stick, eggrolls, Oreo waffles, spam fries, pineapple fried rice, a Korean corn dog, lobster balls, chicken pies, and more!

It was an incredible experience trying all these foods and looking at all the art vendors, and to top it all off, we watched a sumo wrestling tournament!

POV: you’re eating dinner at a restaurant 1 mile away from your hotel in Venice and a thunderstorm rolls through. It’s getting late and the tides are rising. Your waiter tells you to wait it out but you’ve already had a long travel day and it’s 9:30pm. You have to navigate through Venice back to your hotel but you and your phone are getting soaked from the downpour. You turn the corner where water is up to your knee and another American girl yells “save your shoes and socks!!” And you yell back “it’s too late for that” because you’ve already trudged half a mile in the pouring rain. Diners are staring at you through the windows at every awning you stop at to get out of the rain. You eventually get back to your hotel room (praying that the shower is available because you’re sharing a bathroom with your neighbor) and your clothes and new tennis shoes are drenched. Mascara is running down your face and you realize you’re going to have to find a laundromat to wash and dry your clothes

I love to travel and obviously follow a ton of travel accounts. I always find it funny when I watch people on Instagram talking about leaving their 9-5 corporate jobs and travel blogging full-time while I’m on lunch break at my 8-5 healthcare job (still in residency year… and WFH is not really a thing in audiology). The stark contrast between someone’s Tuesday morning swim with sea turtles vs my morning telling patients to wear their hearing aids makes me laugh. And no I’m not actually in Italy, I just cleaned chunks of earwax out of an earmold

On our first night in Venice, there was a huge thunderstorm that rolled in and let’s just say we were not prepared. We were enjoying our nice dinner as we watched the tide rise slowly. Then mixed with some thunder and lightning, there was a straight downpour for at least an hour. Our waiter tried to convince us to “wait it out” but it was almost 9:30pm and after a long day of travel, we were just ready to get in bed. We trekked a mile back to our hotel through the streets (not really streets because they don’t have roads?? 🤔) of Venice in the pouring rain and in some areas high tide waters. Our first night in Venice was not super great but it makes for a funny memory/story 😅

Spend a Japanese-inspired day with me & my family in Austin!

First, we went to the 2024 Oita Japan Festival, which was really fun! We listened to a shamisen player, watched a shodo performer, watched sumo and traditional dances, and tried all kinds of delicious food. They also had a marketplace and a kids activity area. I sat at the kids’ table and made a paper airplane with @japanairlines_jal 😎

After that, we went to a revolving sushi restaurant! We collected 15 sushi plates to get a prize 😁 and our drinks were served by a robot waiter

Then we went to Daiso, a Japanese store with snacks, home goods, toys, decorations, etc! We spent quite a bit of time there looking at a bunch of items we’ve never seen before!

After spending one night in Florence, we moved on to Venice for a couple of nights. We had nothing planned for Venice, which maybe wasn’t the way to go. The popular museums had long lines for tickets and we didn’t have a ton of time here, so we decided not to explore the city rather than spend time waiting in line
